Melon Hat Kits

With an extra deep brim, that can be folded up twice, you can wear this hat several ways - as a beanie, a trendy watch cap style or fold the brim over once for a more slouchy look. Using short rows makes creating a lightweight hat with a nice chunky, double fold brim immensely less tedious than knitting a hat in the round would be!

Instead of knitting this hat by casting on and joining in the round, this hat is worked sideways, which gives the fabric its beautiful vertical stripes. With the use of easy short rows, the stripes transition into the shape of the crown. A very clever detail — the brim section is worked in purl stitch, so the garter stripes line up perfectly when the brim is folded! Finally, you sew the hat together at the end with garter kitchener stitch for a seamless finish.

You can knit your hat in spicy colors for your winter wardrobe or more simple and stylish. We’ve paired lots of color combinations for these hat kits and you can create your own by selecting one ball each of your main and contrast color, in both KAOS Yarn Luxury Soft Merino & Halo Brushed Alpaca, for a total of four balls (the yarns are held double throughout).
